If you've ever made the mistake of calling a barbecue a grill in front of a bunch of outdoor cooking enthusiasts, chances are you got an earful! You see, there are many differences between a barbecue and a grill. I'll outline three key differences in the following text.
Lars usually goes with the BBQ Combo ($15) of Ribs & either Briskit or slow cooked pork. I like their briskit, but the pork is more tender. I've had the BBQ chicken here too, and it was pretty damn good also.
Step back into the 50's! This restaurant located across the bay in Coronado serves breakfast, lunch and diner. While a little on the pricey side I love bringing my children to the restaurant because of their assortment of good food. They have appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches and specialty plates. I absolutely love the hippie burger and the bleus (as in bleu cheese) burger. And their breakfasts are the best. All while seated in a diner set to a 1950's theme. If you're having trouble finding it, walk north on Orange Avenue and look for the Elvis slow cooked pulled pork dry rub cow statues. They are in front of the MooTime Creamery, the place Beach and Diner gets their divine deserts. Try the two tone toffee, it is really the best desert there!
Friday - It's Smorgasbord time! One day of the slow cooker pulled pork week is always busier than the rest. You'll be glad to have a refrigerator full of leftovers for that day. You can use your creative nature to re-invent some of the leftovers into new dishes or you can simply arrange your leftovers on the counter with plates, bowls, and silverware, and have your family dig in.
Provide banana pepper rings and pepperoncinis on the side, slices of provolone and Monterrey jack cheese, and crusty Italian rolls. In addition, set out a bottle of BBQ sauce for those that want a little extra. This main dish is sure to be a big hit with the crowd, and clean up will be a breeze.
Healthy family recipes can be hard to find but this is one that everybody will love! Ground turkey soup is a healthy recipe for kids and adults that I found in a cookbook for slow cooker s called Fix It and Forget It Lightly (I highly recommend it for healthy slow cooker recipes). In the original recipe they called for hamburger but I use ground turkey and I find that it is even better! My kids absolutely love it and yours will too. Two other added benefits to this recipe is that it's easy on the waist line and the budget! I like to fix this when I'm real busy because it only takes 10 minutes at the most to throw it together first thing in the morning and it's one of those healthy recipes for kids the whole family will love!
Fast Food/Restaurants. As much as I love a good steak biscuit in the morning, there is very little fast food that will be beneficial in your quest to get your blood pressure down. But when in a restaurant, select salads and hold the bacon and the cheese, lean meats like fish or chicken (not fried), and deserts like jello.
Once the meat has cooled you will need a sharp knife or a deli meat slicer to cut it thin enough for sandwiches. The deli slicer is a great kitchen tool to have if you plan to eat roast beef sandwiches very frequently.
